Your 2023 Michigan Wolverines won the national championship for the first time since 1997 after the Wolverines defeated Washington for the coveted trophy.
Michigan came back to Ann Arbor for a parade and headed to Crisler Center to speak and be honored in front of friends, family, and Michigan fans. It was a great time for the players and especially for the fans to honor and cheer on the national champions.
But one Wolverine not only got to celebrate with his teammates during the parade, he was also honored by his hometown.
Freshman cornerback Jyaire Hill was a gem of the 2023 recruiting class. He came to Ann Arbor as a four-star recruit and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Illinois. Hill posted on his social media account that the city of Kankakee (IL) honored him for being the first national champion in the city’s history.
The 6-foot-2 corner appeared in just four games this season and tallied eight tackles along with 1.5 TFLs. The lengthly corner has a chance to make himself a household name next season in Ann Arbor with Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace leaving for the NFL.
The Wolverines return Will Johnson but the starting corner opposite of Johnson, plus the nickel, are wide open for the taking. Michigan could go snatch someone out of the transfer portal like it did last year when the Wolverines landed Wallace from UMass. But there are a few younger guys that will compete for immediate playing time like Hill. Keon Sabb, DJ Waller, and Ja’Den McBurrows all saw playing time this season.
Regardless of what happens next season, it’s pretty awesome to see a Wolverine being honored like Hill did in his hometown.
