The Michigan Wolverines have been on an incredible run over the last three seasons, putting together an overall record of 40-3 – one that includes three straight wins over Ohio State, three straight Big Ten Championships, and a National Championship.
In order for Michigan to continue that success in 2024, it will need to navigate one of the toughest schedules in all of college football. In addition to facing familiar foes like Michigan State, Penn State and Ohio State, the Wolverines will also take on Big Ten newcomers USC, Washington, and Oregon. Oh, and the Wolverines will also host the Texas Longhorns in week two at the Big House.
Let’s take a look a closer look at Michigan’s 2024 schedule:
- Fresno State – Aug. 31
- Texas – Sep. 7
- Arkansas State – Sep. 14
- USC – Sep. 21
- Minnesota – Sep. 28
- at Washington – Oct. 5
- at Illinois – Oct. 19
- Michigan State – Oct. 26
- Oregon Ducks – Nov. 2
- at Indiana – Nov. 9
- Northwestern – Nov. 23
- at Ohio State – Nov. 30
Making things even more interesting in 2024 is the fact that the Big Ten is doing away with the East and West divisions, and the conference championship game will now feature the two teams with the best overall records within the conference. This means that it’s entirely likely that the Wolverines and Buckeyes could square off in back-to-back weeks, once for the regular season finale on Nov. 30, and then again in Indianapolis for the conference championship.
Of course, the addition of four former Pac 12 teams – USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington – will certainly make the Big Ten conference a much tougher landscape to navigate for both the Wolverines and the Buckeyes.
Even with several question marks during the early off-season (most notably at the head coaching position), Michigan returns enough talent on the field to once again be a legitimate contender for the conference championship and beyond. Can the Wolverines pull it off for the fourth year in a row, or will we ultimately see another team capable of dethroning Michigan in 2024?
Either way you cut it, the 2024 Big Ten football season will certainly be full of matchups that are must-see TV.
