After coming off of a national championship campaign, the Wolverines will look like a brand new team when they take the field in 2024 — well kind of. Michigan is set to bring back plenty of star power next season like Donovan Edwards, Colston Loveland, Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Will Johnson, Rod Moore, among others. But the maize and blue will have a new-looking coaching staff led by brand new head coach Sherrone Moore.
While Moore is still trying to fill out his coaching staff, trying to retain his current roster, while recruiting high school players and looking into the transfer portal — analysts are trying to predict what Michigan might look like in 2024. The Wolverines have a tough schedule that consists of teams like Texas, USC, Oregon, Washington, and Ohio State — Michigan will have to bring it on every Saturday.
Recently, 247Sports reconfigured their way-too-early top 25 for 2024. After the season ended, when the Wolverines defeated the Washington Huskies, the 247Sports’ panel listed Michigan at No. 7 ahead of the ’24 season.
After shuffling around the top 25, the Wolverines came back in at No. 7 even with the coaching departures.
Can Sherrone Moore keep it going in 2024? Part of the reason the Wolverines landed outside of the top 5 in our initial way-too-early rankings in January was the expectation Jim Harbaugh would leave for the NFL — and he did. And now that the dust has settled following several additional coaching staff exits, it’s up to Moore to retool a national championship-winning program and get back to the playoff. JJ McCarthy leaving for the 2024 NFL Draft was a 50-50 proposition this time a month ago. Now that he’s made it official, there’s question at the position given his production level.
Here was 247Sports’ top 10:
- Georgia
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Oregon
- Ole Miss
- Alabama
- Michigan
- Missouri
- Notre Dame
- Penn State
