News broke late Monday night that star Michigan football safety Rod Moore suffered a torn ACL during practice — reports indicate it was a non-contact injury.

Moore came back to Ann Arbor for his senior season and was expected to be a leader on the defense. He has played a ton of football for the Wolverines and was an All-Big Ten selection in 2023. Arguably, Moore is considered one of the top safeties in all of college football.

Safety Keon Sabb left Michigan after two seasons after the Wolverines won the national title. The loss of Sabb, who transferred to Alabama, feels much bigger after hearing the news about Moore.

Michigan did receive notice that veteran safety Quinten Johnson would be back in Ann Arbor for his sixth season — after he originally announced he would enter the NFL Draft. The Wolverines will likely rely on Makari Paige and Johnson to fortify the safety position. Younger guys like Zeke Berry and Brandyn Hillman both could see an uptick in playing time this season as well — or Michigan could try its hand in the transfer portal.
