Michigan head basketball coach Dusty May has wasted no time building his new staff and roster during his first month in Ann Arbor, particularly over the last week.
It started on Thursday when the program officially announced six new members of May’s staff – including Mike Boynton Jr. (assistant coach), Justin Joyner (assistant coach), Akeem Miskdeen (assistant coach), Kyle Church (assistant coach/general manager), Drew Williamson (assistant coach/director of player development), and Brandon Gilbert (special assistant to the head coach).
On Friday, Justin Pippen, son of NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, announced he was committed to the Michigan Wolverines. Pippen is listed as a four-star recruit in the 2024 class and is considered as a top 100 player by 247Sports. May added another commitment on Friday from North Texas transfer Rubin Jones, a graduate student guard who averaged 12.1 points per game as a senior in 2023.
On Saturday, May’s hot-streak on the recruiting trial continued when Michigan received the commitment of Danny Wolf – a 7-foot center out of Yale who averaged 14.1 points and 9.7 rebounds as a sophomore in 2023.
Now, on Sunday, May has added yet another transfer portal target to the roster in Ann Arbor – this time with the commitment of Auburn transfer guard Tre Donaldson. As a sophomore in 2023, Donaldson averaged 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Although it has certainly been an impressive start for May, Michigan fans should expect even more good news in the coming days. Former FAU center Vlad Goldin is another big target (literally) who is reportedly leaning toward joining his former head coach in Ann Abor. The 7-foot center averaged 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 2023 as a junior, and his connection with May makes Michigan the obvious favorite as a landing spot.
