As Michigan wraps up its first spring session under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore, plenty of questions remain as the program looks to defend its national championship in 2024.

Meeting with the media on Monday, Moore discussed his thoughts on spring ball, NIL, the transfer portal, and more. Here are some of the most noteworthy topics and comments from today’s press conference:

Spring Results

“I thought it was good. Physical, tough, I think we’re calloused. I think it was a fun spring and people really got after it, so I’m excited for the progress we’re going to make into the summer.”

“Really good. A couple of penalties, but other than that, I think the guys competed and they had a lot of fun. So that’s what I wanted to see, and to make sure there weren’t any major injuries.”

The Difference From Being A Coordinator To Head Coach

“Just different in the fact that it’s not as much football. I used to sit in a room with two big screens and watch football all the time. But it’s less of that, and more of managing the organization on a daily basis, just keeping our alignment, keeping our process the same. So that’s really been the biggest thing for me.

“There’s things that go on every single day that are different that you didn’t have to handle (before). I’m excited about everything that has gone on, just going to keep progressing.”

NIL

“It’s something you’ve got to have a plan for. It’s there, it’s out there so you have to have a plan, you have to attack it in a way. We’re going to do it our way, and we’ll continue to attack it aggressively. Just make sure we have a plan when we do have those conversations.”

The Defensive Line

“It’s fun to watch all of them. Mason, KG, Derrick Moore, Josaiah, a guy that we all talked about was TJ Guy, he took steps. Trey Pierce took steps. Enow Etta took steps, Cam Brandt took steps. Koumba, it was fun to watch him. Our true freshman, Dominic Nichols. There wasn’t a guy that took a step backward or stayed the same, they all improved. I’m just excited to watch all those guys progress and we’ll see who the strength is. We won’t know until fall camp.”

Will Michigan Utilize The Transfer Portal This Spring?

“We’ll see. Different needs, different spots… I’m not going to get into all of the particulars. But we’ll see how we progress. Excited for the ability of this team.”

Recruiting

“Not really slow. There’s a process in how we do things, who we want and who we get. So I can’t comment on recruits, when they recruit, when they’re going to recruit, when they’re going to commit. So, we’re taking it day by day and we’re going to find the best fit for us.

“People make decisions when they want to make decisions. We’ll take the decisions as they come and make sure it’s the right fit.”

NCAA Ruling On Recruiting Violations

“All that stuff, I’m not going to comment or talk about.”

Is There “Juice” In The Building After Winning A National Championship?

“I mean, I felt some great juice when I got those four rings the other day. I mean we got all the juice we wanted, and we’ll continue to get it…keep working. Last year was last year. We’re still celebrating it, we’re excited that we did that, and we’ll look at those rings all the time. That’s all the juice we need.”
