After just six days in the portal, true freshman linebacker Jeremiah Beasley announced he’s committed to the Missouri Tigers. Beasley, who was an early enrollee at Michigan, spent just five months in Ann Arbor before deciding to explore other options.
Although it was initially surprising to see Beasley make the decision to transfer before playing in a single game as a Wolverine, a deeper dive into his recruitment helped put things in perspective. The two coaches who recruited him to Michigan, co-DC Steve Clinkscale and LB coach Chris Partridge, are no longer with the program. Partridge was released from the program back in November, and Steve Clinkscale is now part of Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Given the fact that Beasley lost the two coaches he had the best relationship with, it wasn’t all that shocking to see the young linebacker enter his name into the portal. The former four-star prospect from the state of Michigan held an offer from the Missouri as a recruit, and the coach who recruited him – DJ Smith – is still with the program as the co-DC and linebackers coach.
As for what things look like in Ann Arbor at the linebacker position, the Wolverines still have plenty of options to work with. It starts with Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, a pair of juniors who are pretty much locks to be starters this fall. Michigan also has a whole host of depth at the linebacker position – including guys like Micah Pollard, Jason Hewlett, Jimmy Rolder, Jaydon Hood, and Cole Sullivan.
