After one season at the University of Michigan, sophomore linebacker Semaj Bridgeman announced that he was entering his name into the transfer portal back in April. Bridgeman didn’t see any game action as a true freshman at Michigan in 2023, and the loaded linebacker room heading into 2024 likely played a big factor in the former four-star prospects decision to explore other options.

One of those options appears to be in East Lansing with the Michigan State Spartans, as Bridgeman recently shared a photo from his visit to the rival program on Saturday.

Although it’s usually unexpected, it’s not all that uncommon for prospects to check out rival programs upon entering the transfer portal – especially these days. For example, former Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham is scheduled to visit Ann Arbor in the coming weeks. He will visit Ohio State this weekend, visit Nebraska on Monday, and then Ann Arbor next weekend.

Unlike Bridgeman, Mangham would bring some significant on-field experience to whatever program he chooses moving forward. The 6-foot-2 Michigan native was one of the bright spots on the Spartans’ defense as a safety last season, finishing the year with 53 tackles and a team-high four interceptions.

Obviously the Michigan Wolverines could use some depth in the secondary heading into the 2024 season, particularly with the loss of Rod Moore (injury), Keon Sabb (transfer portal), and DJ Waller Jr. (transfer portal). Regardless of whether or not the Wolverines land Mangham, you can expect Sherrone Moore to snag one or two defensive backs out of the portal in the near future.
