Michigan football is on a heater right now when it comes to adding talent via the transfer portal. The Wolverines have secured the commitments from four defensive backs in the last couple of days and it appears Michigan is still looking to add to its roster.

There have been some rumblings about the Wolverines wanting to add a defensive lineman. Michigan tried to get Grand Valley State’s DT Jay’Vier Suggs, but he went to LSU. Now, the Wolverines are looking into another target.

Stephen F. Austin’s DT Brandon Lane will reportedly visit Michigan soon, along with Wisconsin and Louisville. Lane wants to make a decision soon.

If Michigan could land Lane, it would be sort of taking another Spartan away from Michigan State — kind of. Lane actually committed to MSU back on April 26 but de-committed on May 2. The Wolverines recently received a commitment from MSU safety Jaden Mangham.

The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle began his career with South Dakota State in 2021. He transferred to Stephen F. Austin where he has played the last two seasons. Lane was extremely productive this past year, in 2023. He accumulated 44 tackles, 6.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks as an interior force. Lane has two years of eligibility remaining.

Michigan returns Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, and Rayshaun Benny as players who have major experience as interior defensive linemen. Sophomore Enow Etta is expected to play more inside than Edge this season. The Wolverines would be able to add more depth with a star-studded rotation if they could land Lane.
