Michigan lost Blake Corum to the NFL, but the Wolverines are set to return Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings to form a sold backfield in 2024. There are a few younger guys who will figure to get into the mix as well like Benjamin Hall and Cole Cabana.
The Wolverines went out and signed four-star running back Jordan Marshall from the state of Ohio and he’s one of the top running backs in the 2024 class. Even by adding Marshall, Michigan wasn’t satisfied with just one running back in the ’24 cycle.
Along with Marshall, Michigan also signed Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman running back Micah Kaapana. Kaapana is just a three star running back, but he is extremely impressive to watch. in 2022, he rushed for over 1,000 yards and while he was productive this past season, he split some playing time.
But the talent of Kaapana is really starting to show. Matt Moreno with Rivals is out watching practice for the Polynesian Bowl and Michigan signee Kaapana, is out there. Moreno called Kaapana one of the top performers during bowl practice.
The Michigan signee made several impressive plays throughout Wednesday’s practice both as a receiver and as a runner. His ability to use his speed to slice through the defense on the ground and get behind defenders as a pass catcher stood out, and he was consistently making impactful plays for Team Mauka.
It’s not clear if Kaapana will factor into the 2024 running back rotation with so many guys still in the fold with the Wolverines, but after next season, Kaapana has a chance to crack the rotation moving forward if he continues to progress.
