ESPN Names One Michigan Football Freshman That Could Make An Instant Impact In 2024

Michigan might have a really special freshman making an impact in 2024.

As of now, Michigan has 27 recruits signed for the 2024 recruiting class and the Wolverines are the 16th ranked class according to the Composite rankings. The maize and blue needed to sign a bigger class this season with all the attrition Michigan is set to lose. The Wolverines had plenty of seniors and some juniors leave Ann Arbor to take their talents to the NFL, or life after football.

Outside of filling J.J. McCarthy’s shoes, one of the bigger shoes to fill will be finding someone to replace the 27 touchdowns Blake Corum accounted for on the ground this season for Michigan.

The Wolverines were lucky enough to get Donovan Edwards back for one more run as the lead back. Michigan will also have Kalel Mullings who showed major flashes on the ground this season.

Michigan has a pair of freshman back from the 2023 season in Ben Hall and Cole Cabana, and the Wolverines also have a pair of freshman signed in the 2024 season. According the ESPN, one of those freshman could become an instant contributor in 2024 — Cincinnati (OH) Moeller RB Jordan Marshall.

Michigan is losing star running back Blake Corum, who led the FBS in rushing touchdowns in 2023. Donovan Edwards, Kalel Mullings and Cole Cabana — who was No. 117 in the 2023 ESPN 300 — are coming back. Marshall won the Ohio Mr. Football award and ran for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns and had 394 yards receiving with four touchdown receptions this past season. The Wolverines’ offense is built on the running game and used multiple backs last season. Marshall could find his role as Michigan tries to fill Corum’s shoes.

The 5-foot-10 running back came to the Wolverines as one of the top prospects in the state of Ohio. Looking at the Composite, he is the third-best prospect from Ohio and the 83rd- ranked recruit in the 2024 cycle.

Marshall is going to have to impress when he gets to Ann Arbor if he’s going to break into the rotation with so many guys in front of him. But one thing is for sure, Marshall is very talented and he is expected to have a great career as a Wolverine before it’s all said and done.
