After nine seasons as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh finally found a situation (and an offer) good enough to lure him away from Ann Arbor. Harbaugh is set to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, bringing an end to an incredible era of Michigan Football.

Harbaugh leaves Ann Arbor as arguably the greatest head coach in program history, restoring the Wolverines from perennial underachievers to perennial national championship contenders. During his time at Michigan, Harbaugh amassed an overall record of 89-25, including an impressive 40-3 over his final three seasons in Ann Arbor. He led the Wolverines to three consecutive wins over Ohio State, three Big Ten Championships, three appearances in the College Football Playoff, and one National Championship.

Put simply, Harbaugh accomplished everything he set out to do when he took the job at Michigan back in 2015.

With that being said, there is obviously one big box that remains unchecked on Harbaugh’s football wish list – and that’s the Lombardi Trophy. After weighing his options, Harbaugh clearly felt that the Chargers would give him the best shot at getting it done.

Although Michigan fans are undoubtedly unhappy to be losing a guy like Harbaugh, I think it’s safe to say that everyone is grateful for what he did for the football program during his time in Ann Arbor. He may be coaching the Chargers, but he’ll still have thousands of Maize and Blue faithful rooting for him on Sundays.
