The Wolverines lost their first player to the transfer portal since Jim Harbaugh announced he was leaving Michigan to head to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Walk-on linebacker Jerome Nichols announced on X that he would put his name into the portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
Nichols walked on to Michigan from Belleville (MI) back in 2020. He did not see any game action in ’20 or 2021, but played in four total games between 2022 and 2023.
Nichols tallied two tackles this season for the Wolverines playing on special teams. He will leave Michigan as an Academic All-Big Ten member back in 2021 and earned his varsity letter in 2022.
While Nichols isn’t a big name on the roster that most fan will recognize, it just goes to show that Michigan is bound to lose a few players to the portal after losing its nine-year head coach.
As long as Michigan does sign Sherrone Moore as its next head coach, Moore should be able to keep most — if not all — of the key players heading into 2024.
