It was expected that Jim Harbaugh’s departure for the NFL would also lead to other assistant coaches potentially making the move along with him. According to Josh Henschke of Michigan Rivals, Minter will in fact be leaving Michigan’s staff to “explore NFL opportunities.”

Although the report isn’t specific when it comes to what those opportunities may be, it seems unlikely that Minter would end up anywhere other than Los Angeles as part of Harbaugh’s staff with the Chargers.

Minter joined Harbaugh’s staff in Ann Arbor back in 2022 and helped continue to the success created by his predecessor, Mike Macdonald. In 2023, Minter’s defensive unit finished No. 1 nationally in both total defense and scoring defense – and it was a big reason why the Wolverines captured the national championship.

As Sherrone Moore now looks to assemble his staff as head coach of the Michigan Football program, replacing Minter will certainly be a top priority.
