Jim Harbaugh has yet to make his introductory press conference with the Los Angeles Chargers, and while Harbaugh has reportedly spoken with the Michigan football team — not much has been heard from the former Wolverines head coach.
On Sunday, Harbaugh was in Baltimore to support his brother John Harbaugh and the Ravens when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
The CBS pregame desk had Harbaugh come on TV to talk a little bit. Harbaugh spoke for a couple of minutes and briefly talked about how the decision to leave Michigan was difficult.
“Yeah it was tough,” said Harbaugh on there being unfinished business in the NFL. “I was torn. My wife, my kids – I love Michigan, but I love the NFL too. There’s no Lombardi Trophy in college football. I only got so many sands in the hour glass and I want to take a crack at that. There is no where better to do it than the Los Angeles Chargers.”
Harbaugh was asked about the Chargers franchise QB Justin Herbert. Harbaugh said he was a little starstruck talking to Herbert.
“I have, I have,” Harbaugh said of meeting Herbert. “I met him [Herbert] and Derwin James — I mean pros, pros these guys — Keenan Allen. But I was a little starstruck meeting Justin.”
Harbaugh was asked about what the culture is going to be like with the Chargers. He says all the hard work will pay off and the rewards are going to be worth it.
“I’m probably going to reference this right here. We work together, we win together, and it’s worth it. The hard work, the sacrifice, the pressure — all of it. Why would somebody put themselves through that? Because the rewards are so darn good”
Harbaugh has been a proven winner wherever he goes. He had success at the University of San Diego, led Stanford to a 11 win season, took the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl, and then led the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship. The Chargers got themselves a proven winner and a coach that won’t stop until he wins there.
