Now that his coaching career at the University of Michigan is officially over, it’s safe to say that Jim Harbaugh’s time in Ann Arbor was a resounding success. Although there are certainly question marks about the program moving forward, Harbaugh is leaving a program behind that is currently at the top of the college football mountain. Finishing off an incredible three-year stretch where the Wolverines went 40-3 overall, Harbaugh’s final season culminated in a perfect 15-0 record with a national championship victory over No. 2 Washington.

Three straight victories over the Buckeyes have swung the momentum in the rivalry back in Michigan’s favor, the Wolverines have won the last three Big Ten Championships, and now there’s a brand new national championship trophy in display in Schembechler Hall.

When looking at the overall numbers, there’s no question that Jim Harbaugh has firmly established himself among some of the greatest coaches in Michigan Football history. It’s hard to compare the challenges of different eras, but a strong argument can be made that Harbaugh’s overall coaching success puts him at the top of the list when certain factors are considered (transfer protal, NIL, CFP era, etc.).
