Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore indicated this week that he is looking to have his staff fully assembled “in the next week or so.” Moore will have some big holes to fill with the departure of defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and head of Strength and Conditioning, Ben Herbert. But there are still significant pieces remaining from Harbaugh’s old staff that will remain in place – and in some cases, receive a promotion.

Here’s a look at who’s gone, who’s back (for now), and what we might see happen next:

No Longer With Program

  • Jim Harbaugh, Head Coach
  • Jesse Minter, Defensive Coordinator
  • Jay Harbaugh, Special Teams
  • Ben Herbert, Strength and Conditioning

Still With Program

  • Sherrone Moore, Head Coach
  • Grant Newsome, Offensive Line Coach
  • Ron Bellamy, Wide Receivers Coach*
  • Kirk Campbell, Quarterbacks Coach*
  • Steve Clinkscale, co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs*
  • Mike Elston, Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line*
  • Mike Hart, Running Backs Coach*
  • Justin Tress, head of Strength and Conditioning

Moore made it clear that he doesn’t intend on continuing with his duties as the offensive coordinator, and it feels like that role could be filled internally by promoting a guy like Kirk Campbell from QB coach to OC. There’s also questions surrounding who Moore plans to target for the defensive coordinator position, but Steve Clinkscale has already served as a co-DC over the past year and it’s likely he could receive that promotion.

With Moore looking to have his staff fully assembled over the next week, look for a lot of announcements on that front in the coming days.
