In what feels like a pivotal week for new head coach Sherrone Moore to fill out his coaching staff — the Wolverines are set to lose two more staffers.

As you might figure, Jim Harbaugh is set to hire a Michigan staffer. Dylan Roney, a behind-the-scenes coach, is set to head west to Los Angeles and coach with Harbaugh. According to The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, the Chargers will likely promote Roney to a quality control assistant.

Roney was tasked to helping defensive line coach Mike Elston coach the Edge rushers. He will now head to the NFL and work alongside former Michigan defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter. Roney played as an Edge rusher with Ferris State and was pivotal in helping the Wolverines this season.

The other Michigan staffer to leave is Doug Mallory. Mallory has been with Michigan for the past three seasons, but John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens will hire Mallory away to become the new secondary coach in Baltimore.

Mallory worked alongside Minter helping prepare the defense for opponents as an analyst. Mallory played for Michigan from 1984-1987 under Bo Schembechler. He already had NFL coaching experience having coached for the Atlanta Falcosn from 2015-’20.

While both are under-the-radar type of coaches, any loss is a big one after your team just won a national title. Now, all eyes are on Mike Elston, Mike Hart, and Steve Clinkscale to see what they might do.
