Even with the departure of Jim Harbaugh, Jesse Minter, Ben Herbert, and others, the Wolverines haven’t had a mass exodus of players leave the program. It appears most of the program has been patient allowing new head coach Sherrone Moore fill out his staff and see what the new-look Michigan Wolverines are going to look like.
But, of course, following any coaching departure there will be some players leave the program. The most notable player has been safety Keon Sabb.
Sabb surprisingly entered the transfer portal on Friday Feb. 16th. Four short days later, it was announced that Sabb not only committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, but was also already enrolled.
Sabb took a big step forward for the Wolverines this past season and made some big-time plays. Even with the return of Rod Moore and Makari Paige at safety, it was expected that Sabb would see an even larger role increase in Ann Arbor. But the junior felt like it was best to move on and head to Alabama under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Outside of Sabb, the Wolverines didn’t see any attrition in recent weeks, but Michigan did lose a four-star athlete/linebacker in its 2024 recruiting class.
Charlotte (NC) West Charlotte linebacker Jaden Smith asked for the release of his Letter Of Intent to play at Michigan. Smith was ranked as the 284th-best player in the country, according to the Composite rankings.
On Tuesday, the fast-rising playmaker announced he committed to Kentucky to play college football this next season.
