For the second time in 13 meetings, the Missouri Tigers defeated Ohio State last season in the Cotton Bowl. The Tigers shut down the Ohio State offense and took down the Buckeyes, 14-3. It was a win for Missouri but also a win for the Michigan fans — anytime OSU loses is a joy for Wolverine nation.
The Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz has been known to poke fun at other teams — even at Michigan. During an ESPN segment last year, before Missouri faced Ohio State, Drinkwitz ended the phone call acting like former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions was on the phone to give him info on Ohio State.
“Hey guys, I got a quick phone call,” Drinkwitz said as he looked down at his cellphone. “Connor Stalions [is] beeping in right here … So I gotta go.”
Everyone made fun of the Stalions situation, so that wasn’t shocking. But what’s weird is the fact the Missouri football team stole Michigan’s slogan on Tuesday when it posted ‘The Team. The Team. The Team.’
The Tigers took down Michigan’s arch rival one time — the first time since 1976 — and now the Tigers are apparently on the same level as the Wolverines.
But to not be outdone, the Michigan Football Twitter account clapped back with its own slogan of “Imitated, but never duplicated” with photos of The Team, The Team, The Team posted all over.
Of course, it’s all fun and games, but for Missouri to do that randomly on a Tuesday in February is some weird behavior.
