Former Michigan basketball coach John Beilein was the head man in Ann Arbor for 12 seasons and he was one of the more successful coaches at Michigan when it comes to basketball. Beilein took over a struggling program in 2007-08 and went just 10-22 that year.
But he was fantastic after that. Beilein went on to take Michigan to the NCAA Tournament nine times and led the Wolverines to two National Championship appearances while becoming the program’s winningest coach. Beilein has always been known as someone who could re-shape a program and build it into a national contender.
Now Beilein is in the booth at the Big Ten Network and following a 84-61 loss to rival Ohio State, the former Michigan coach was left speachless about the 8-23 Wolverines.
“I don’t know how to respond as the coach from this place up North[following coach Diebler’s comments about Michigan],” said former Michigan coach John Beilein on the Big Ten Network. “I don’t have a comment right now. I really don’t have a comment. I don’t have a comment.”
After starting the season 3-0, the Wolverines went downhill quickly. Michigan lost the final seven games of the season and went just 3-16 in Big Ten play. It has to be tough for someone like Beilein to watch what’s going on in Ann Arbor. Juwan Howard is in year five at Michigan and is currently 8-23. Year five under John Beilein resulted in a Big Ten regular season Championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance. Two completely different trajectories.
“Coach Diebler has done a good job with it,” Beilein later added. “No Michigan coach likes to see Ohio State win at anytime in anything.
