According to multiple reports, former Michigan football offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. cashed in during Day 1 of NFL free agency. Runyan will sign a three-year deal with the New York Giants for $30 million. He will get paid $10 million/year on average.
Runyan was a sixth round pick back in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Green Bay Packers. Many pundits thought Runyan wouldn’t get drafted, or if he did, he would be strictly a depth piece with no much upside. But he proved many people wrong. During his four-year stint with the Packers, Runyan became a valuable starting piece for Green Bay and allowed just two sacks in 2023.
After signing a big contract with the Giants, Runyan (27 years old) will become a starter Day 1 with New York. The Giants needed to shore up their line to protect Daniel Jones — or whoever might start there — and open more holes up for the running attack.
Runyan played with Michigan from 2015-2019. He was a four-year letterman with the Wolverines and a two-time All-Big Ten player. He started most of his games at left tackle for Michigan, but has since transitioned to guard in the NFL.
Other Wolverines in the NFL:
Guard Graham Glasgow re-signed with the Detroit Lions to a three-year/$20 million contract.
Defensive end Brandon Graham is back with the Eagles for his 15th NFL season.
