It’s certainly not the kind of news you want to hear, particularly when it involves a member of the staff who was officially hired less than two weeks ago.
On Saturday, the Detroit News reported that Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The arrest was confirmed by Chris Page, the strategic communications manager for the Ann Arbor Police Department. “I can confirm he was arrested for OWI by our department just before 3 a.m.”, Page said in a text message to the Detroit News.

“Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review details of the incident.“
Scruggs spent five years as a defensive lineman in the NFL before transitioning to the coaching ranks. He began his coaching career with the Cincinnati Bearcats as director of player development from 2018-19 and the defensive line coach from 2020-21. Scruggs then returned to the NFL as an assistant defensive line coach for the New York Jets, before returning to the college ranks in 2023 with the Wisconsin Badgers.
