If you were hoping Michigan basketball could retain most of its roster for the new head coach — it’s looking bleak.
So far guards George Washington and Dug McDaniel — the leading scorer this past season — have both entered their names into the transfer portal. Now, after McDaniel announced his entry into the portal, Michigan’s top 2024 recruit Khani Rooths has announced his de-commitment from the Wolverines and he will re-open his recruitment.
The only positive sentiment to this news is the fact that he will continue to consider Michigan during his recruitment. He also wants to see who the Wolverines hire to run the basketball program and Rooths could end back up in Ann Arbor.
Rooths is a 6-foot-7 forward out of IMG Academy (FL). He was Michigan’s top recruit in the 2024 class. According to the Composite rankings, he was the 31st-ranked recruit in the ’24 cycle and the sixth-best forward.
Michigan still has guards Christian Anderson and Durral Brooks committed for 2024, but both are reportedly waiting to see who Michigan hires before making a final decision.
