There have been some rumblings about new Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May starting to assemble his staff and according to some Thursday morning reports, May is set to hire his second assistant coach.

Anthony Dasher, a Georgia Bulldogs’ reporter, confirmed that Georgia assistant basketball coach Akeem Miskdeen will indeed leave Georgia and head to Michigan to coach under Dusty May.

Miskdeen will come to Ann Arbor after spending the last two seasons as a Georgia assistant coach. He coached under Mike White at Florida for one season before the Georgia stint. Miskdeen actually coached with Dusty May at Florida Atlantic from 2018-2021, so there is a strong connection between the two coaches.

Miskdeen is known as a strong recruiter and a great player developer. With the hiring of Miskdeen, it may bode well for Michigan to get back into the recruitment of four-star forward Khani Rooths. He committed to the Wolverines under Juwan Howard, but then de-committed when Howard was fired. Rooths has still been considering Michigan, but he was also highly interested in Georgia — Miskdeen was his recruiter.

Miskdeen now joins former Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton Jr. on Dusty May’s staff.
