In one of the first wins for Dusty May at Michigan, it was announced that guard George Washington III has withdrawn his name out of the transfer portal. Matt Zenitz with 247Sports had the scoop.
Washington, who is entering his sophomore year, was a top-100 recruit entering his freshman year. He was the only player that Juwan Howard signed during the 2023 class. The 6-foot-2 guard played his high school ball in Dayton (Ohio) Chaminade Julienne.
It was a rough freshman year for Washington under coach Howard. He averaged just 1.2 points in 22 games off the bench. Washington’s minutes were never quite high and toward the end of the season, he struggled to stay on the court. Even during blowout games, Howard never would quite turn to the freshman guard to get him more experience.
With May apparently getting Washington back into the fold, Washington has a chance to fight for more minutes on a new-look Michigan basketball team.
