The Wolverines have had a great Friday afternoon. Things kicked off by 2024 four-star guard Justin Pippen committing to Michigan basketball at 4:30 p.m. over the likes of Cal, Stanford, Florida, and others.
But that was just the first positive thing to happen for the maize and blue.
Just a couple of hours later, Dusty May brought in his first transfer portal member. A graduate student from North Texas, Rubin Jones, announced he would commit to Michigan — he was recently on campus in Ann Arbor.
Jones spent four seasons playing for the Mean Green. He became a big part of the rotation right away during his freshman season with North Texas — playing in 22 games and averaging 6.2 points. By the time his senior season came (2023), Jones started all 23 games he played and averaged 12.1 points and shot over 41% from 3. He also averaged over three rebounds and three assists per game this past season.
Jones is listed as a guard, but standing at 6-foot-5, the Wolverines have the ability to play him at either the 2 or 3 on the court. The Houston (TX) native was a 2021 Conference USA All-Freshman Team member, and made the 2023 Conference USA All-Defensive Team.
With two players committing to May and Michigan on Friday, it wouldn’t be shocking to see more dominos starting to fall the Wolverines’ way.
