For the second day in a row, the Michigan Wolverines have lost a promising young talent to the transfer portal – this time with true freshman linebacker, Jeremiah Beasley. The four-star prospect out of Belleville (MI) was the fifth-highest rated recruit in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class, and 247Sports listed him as the No. 6 overall prosect in the state of Michigan (No. 26 linebacker nationally).
Although it initially came as a surprise to see Beasley’s name pop up in the transfer poral, the reality is that the two Michigan coaches who recruited him – Steve Clinkscale and Chris Partridge – are no longer with the program. Some of the strongest bonds between a player and a coach are built on the recruiting trail early on, and Beasley lost both of those guys in one off-season.
The good news for Michigan is that they’re pretty solid at the linebacker position in the near future, with projected starters Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham leading the way. There’s also some solid pieces for depth at the position, including guys like Jimmy Rolder, Jaydon Hood, and true freshman Cole Sullivan.
With all that said, the Wolverines have lost 12 players to the portal so far this off-season, while reeling in just two. In order to sustain the success created over the last three seasons, Michigan has a lot of work to do in the near future – both on the recruiting trail and the transfer portal.
