Today’s news cycle provided yet another example of how quickly things can change in college athletics these days. While reporting surfaced earlier in the day that Michigan guard Nimari Burnett had declared for the NBA Draft, the official account for the Michigan men’s basketball program announced Burnett’s return just hours later.

Burnett returns to Michigan with 71 career games and 41 starts under his belt. He transferred to Michigan following the 2022-23 season with Alabama, where he helped lead the Crimson Tide to a 31-6 overall record. During the 2023-24 season with Michigan, Burnett started all 32 games and averaged a career-best 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He also added 28 steals and 13 blocks.

Although new head coach Dusty May has loaded up on guards in the transfer portal over the last month, there’s no question that Burnett’s return comes as welcome news for the new-look Wolverines. Here’s a look at the current roster heading into 2024-25:
