The 2024 spring transfer window has been one of the most active sessions since the portal launched back in 2018. With thousands of student athletes currently exploring new opportunities at other programs, Michigan fans have been anxiously waiting to see if head coach Sherrone Moore can retain the top talent on his roster. As of this writing, the Wolverines have gained 5 and lost 15 to the portal since winning the national championship in 2023.

Although Michigan has largely avoided losing any top talent to the portal this year, the Wolverines have certainly taken a hit in terms of young talent and depth on the roster. DJ Waller Jr., a promising young DB heading into his sophomore year, entered the portal last week and is already committed to play elsewhere. Keon Sabb, a veteran DB who found greener pastures at Alabama, would have likely seen an increased role with Michigan this fall – particularly with the injury to Rod Moore. Given some of the losses and lack of experience in the secondary, it stands to reason that Sherrone Moore will look to address that via the portal in the coming days.
On the offensive side of the ball, Michigan’s biggest area of need appears to be at the wide receiver position. Although there’s a lot to like about guys like Tyler Morris, Semaj Morgan, Fredrick Moore, and Kendrick Bell, the Wolverines still lack depth and size at the position. It’s also worth noting that Michigan has lost four wide receivers to the portal during the off-season, a reality that has contributed greatly to the lack of depth at that position.
We’ll continue to track all of the movement in the coming days, but here is where Michigan currently stands in terms of gains and losses from the portal this off-season.
