It came as a little surprise when sophomore offensive lineman Amir Herring hit the transfer portal on April 25, but that’s exactly what the West Bloomfield offensive lineman did after spending one season with Michigan.

On Thursday, Herring made the announcement he would be transferring to the Big 12 Conference to play for Kansas.

The 300-pound sophomore played in one game for Michigan as a true freshman in 2023. Herring came to the Wolverines as a four-star recruit and was a four-year starter for West Bloomfield. He helped the Lakers win a State Championship during his sophomore season with West Bloomfield.

Michigan will be starting a brand new offensive line in 2024 when it takes the field. Herring was expected to be in the two-deep for the Wolverines and eventually become a mainstay on the offensive line under Sherrone Moore. But he will now head over to Kansas and compete for a starting role with the ‘Hawks.
