Former Michigan Basketball standout Darius Morris has died at the age of just 33. His family released the following statement on Saturday.

“With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” the statement read. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

No additional information as to the cause of death is available at this time.

Morris played for the Wolverines for two seasons from 2009-11 under former U-M head coach John Beilein, where he earned third-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore. The 6-4, 190-pound guard averaged 9.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.9 rebounds during his two years in Ann Arbor. After the 2011 season, Morris entered his name into the NBA Draft and was selected No 41 overall by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Ultimately, Morris would spend 10 years playing basketball at the professional level – including time in the NBA with the Lakers, 76ers, Clippers, Grizzlies, and Nets. He averaged 3.3 points, 1.4 assists and 1.0 rebounds in 132 total games six years in the league.
