It doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes rival football players will transfer to play for the rival. Recently, Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford left the Buckeyes to coach at Michigan. Former Wolverines’ linebacker Joey Velazquez transferred to Ohio State. And Buckeyes’ basketball player Roddy Gayle left Ohio State and transferred to Michigan.
Now it appears a Michigan State Spartan is going to look into the Wolverines’ football program.
According to Matt Zenitz with 247Sports, Michigan State safety Jaden Mangham has scheduled a visit to Ann Arbor. He will visit Ohio State this weekend, visit Nebraska on Monday, and then go to Ann Arbor next weekend.
Mangham was a four-star recruit in the 2022 class from the state of Michigan. The 6-foot-2 safety was one of the bright spots on the Spartans’ defense. He had 53 tackles in 2023 and led the team with four interceptions.
With star safety Rod Moore out for the foreseeable future, the Wolverines have been looking into the portal for some added safety depth. Michigan does return Makari Paige and brought back Quinten Johnson, but there are some unknowns after those two. Brandyn Hillman and Jacob Oden appear to be next in line, but Hillman hasn’t played a ton of football entering his sophomore season and Oden is a true freshman.
Michigan has also been in touch with former five-star Texas A&M safety Jacoby Mathews.
