When Jim Harbaugh made the move from Ann Arbor to Los Angeles, he didn’t immediately purchase real estate out west. Instead, he opted to live in the ‘RV life’ for a couple of months, and the Chargers shared a hilarious video that provides some insight into what life is like with RV Jim.
In the video above, Harbaugh can be seen soaking up his new life out west in the RV park. He hilariously introduces himself to other members of the park. One of his neighbors asks, “are you guys a part of the team?” Jim responds by saying, “yea, we all are. I’m coaching for them.”
“My name is Jim, by the way. I’ve got a brother John, and I’m Jim.”
In another part of the clip, a neighbor of Harbaugh at the RV park shares a story about a time when Jim accidentally left the space heater running after leaving the RV for the day. Jim called his friend and asked him to check on the space heater to make sure it was off, and his friend described seeing the space heater glowing “like the sun”.
It seemed like Harbaugh was always getting a bad rap for how he was with the media, and even those who suggested he would wear out his welcome after four years or so with a particular team. The reality is that Harbaugh was one of the most interesting coaches I’ve ever had the pleasure of covering. He was always good for a phenomenal soundbite, unexpected words of wisdom, or even some random stories about lawn maintenance and feeding his chickens.
Even when things got rocky in Ann Arbor due to the lack of success against Ohio State through the first six seasons, there was a large segment of the fan base that was still in the “Harbaugh for life” camp – and it turns out that camp was 100 percent justified in their belief of Jim Harbaugh.
It’s clear that the Los Angeles Chargers got a great head coach when the lured Harbaugh away from Ann Arbor, and it seems like its only a matter of time before his championship pedigree pays huge dividends out west. In the meantime, I think Chargers fans (and players) will enjoy getting to know this version of Jim Harbaugh as they embark on this new journey together.
