The Green Bay Packers have placed former Michigan football offensive lineman Trente Jones on the Retired/Reserve list.
The reason for Jones appearing to retire is not known at this time. Barring a life-altering injury, the move comes as a little bit of a surprise after Jones entered the NFL Draft — instead of returning to Michigan — to go off to the league to make a dream happen.
Jones came to Michigan as a four-star recruit and pretty highly touted. He was in Ann Arbor from 2019-23. Jones appeared in 37 career games on the offensive line and 41 overall with 12 starts at right tackle and as the team’s sixth lineman. He was a part of the Joe Moore Award-winning offensive line in back-to-back seasons.
By placing Jones on the reserve/retired list, the Packers retain the player’s NFL rights. Which means if he decides to return to football at some point, Green Bay can have him back if it wants to. If the Packers decided they didn’t want Jones, he’s up for grabs for another NFL team.
