Although much of the fan base was clinging to hope that quarterback JJ McCarthy would announce a return for his senior season, it was clear that it was time for him to capitalize on his success over the last two seasons by declaring for the NFL Draft. The Michigan offense is also losing Blake Corum (arguably the greatest Michigan running back of all-time), the entire starting offensive line, and several other weapons like Roman Wilson, Cornelius Johnson, and AJ Barner.
This is part of the price you pay when you have an elite group of veteran players who just won a national championship.
While many have focused on what Michigan is losing in 2024, there’s still plenty to be optimistic about if you’re a Michigan fan.
Most notably, running back Donovan Edwards announced that he would be returning for his senior season and his first shot at being the feature back in Michigan’s offense. Edwards will lead an extremely deep group of running backs that will certainly make some noise in 2024.
In addition to Edwards, Michigan gets back guys like elite tight end Colston Loveland, wide receivers Tyler Morris and Semaj Morgan, and a whole host of offensive lineman who gained valuable experience over the last several years.
