With Jesse Minter leaving Michigan to head to the NFL rank, Sherrone Moore is left to find somebody to fill that position. The Wolverines have been blessed at filling the defensive coordinator position with two great minds the past few seasons. Jim Harbaugh brought Mike Macdonald over in 2021 to take over for Don Brown. After Macdonald left to head back to the Baltimore Ravens, Harbaugh brought in Minter for two seasons.

Could Moore go the Harbaugh route and bring in a NFL coach? It’s certainly possible and according to CBS reporter, Jonathan Jones, Michigan is considering Kansas City Chiefs defensive line coach Joe Cullen.

Cullen has 17 years of NFL experience in the NFL. He is currently in his second year with the Chiefs and has made Kansas City one of the best defensive lines in all of football. Cullen also coached the defensive line with the Baltimore Ravens from 2016-2020 under John Harbaugh.

He has one year of experience being a defensive coordinator in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 — with Urban Meyer. The Jaguars improved their sack numbers under Cullen from 18 to 32 in his one season there as a DC.

He also has some college experience with Illinois, Indiana, Richmond, Idaho State, and LSU. He coached as the defensive line coach and defensive coordinator during different stops in college.
